Bold Predictions: Super Bowl LI – Patriots vs. Falcons

The boldest of the bold biases anti-Patriot predictions are here!

Yes, I know I didn’t exactly nail the Steelers predictions per se (I did predict Ben would not get sacked) but I had to come around with the same style of thoughts about this Falcons-Patriots duel, because I think the Falcons can do what Pittsburgh couldn’t.

Falcons Win

This is the obvious, easy prediction (at least for me).

I still feel the Patriots haven’t faced quality competition and that will finally catch up with them, provided they don’t get away with Atlanta center Alex Mack, or wide receiver Julio Jones, getting injured.

Both have been nursing injuries throughout the week, and it has been the “Patriot Way” for New England to avoid star players all season (see: Le’Veon Bell, in AFC Championship game).

Matt Ryan stays clean

Again, provided Mack can go (and no doubt he will) Falcons QB Matt Ryan isn’t going to get sacked.

He’s also not going to throw an interception.

I think Ryan stays pretty perfect throughout this game, much in the same way Ben Roethlisberger was (minus the drops from his receivers).

Thirteen (13) different Falcons caught touchdown passes this season, so I don’t anticipate Ryan having trouble like Roethlisberger did.

On the same end, the Patriots pass rush isn’t all that great, so don’t look for Ryan to be phased and make many mistakes.

Both quarterbacks throw three touchdowns

Having said the Patriots defense will be exposed, I don’t think the Falcons defense can stop New England’s offense either. They might get to Brady once or twice (at most) but this game is going to come down to matching fire with fire, something Pittsburgh failed to do several times up in Foxborough.

Brady and Ryan both get at least three touchdowns a piece in this game, with the QB throwing for more scores leading their team to victory.

Blount phased out

He didn’t do much damage against Pittsburgh, and while he had the most touchdowns of any running back in ages (18 during the regular season) the Patriots have had the luxury of gaining leads and controlling clock by handing off to their running back.

Another reason Blount won’t be as prominent is because of the above passing attack: he won’t be used/needed.

LeGarrette Blount will be an afterthought in this game, because New England won’t have the same opportunities as they’ve had before.
