Stats That Stood Out: Steelers vs. Giants (Preseason Week 1)

It wasn’t a pretty victory, but it’s the preseason, so we’ll take it. QB Joshua Dobbs bounced back after a rough start, rookie outside linebacker T.J. Watt notched two sacks in his first NFL game, and other players who are fighting for roster spots made a case for themselves.

2010

This was the first time since 2010 that the Steelers started off their preseason with a victory. They beat the Detroit Lions 23-7 on August 14, 2010. Remember Isaac Redman?

Joshua Dobbs’ passer rating after his 2nd interception of the game. Dobbs bounced by completing 7 of his next 10 passes (70%) for 96 yards and a touchdown to WR Cobi Hamilton. An 11-yard score to TE Xavier Grimble was taken away due to a holding call on LT Brian Mihalik. Love to see a young player bounce back after a shaky start.

Another defensive stat: The Giants were 0-2 in red zone opportunities. The Steelers’ bend but don’t break philosophy prevailed even when Dobbs’ two interceptions backed them up into a corner.
