Preseason Defensive Play of the Game: Chickillo sacks the quarterback

Steel City Underground will pick a play of the game from each side of the ball each week of the Steelers 2017 season. Stay tuned as we hand select the very best from the black and gold!

The Falcons were having their way with the Steelers during the beginning phases of the two teams’ preseason encounter last Sunday.

Atlanta already secured a 10-3 lead while Pittsburgh’s defense appeared to be on their heels. Needing to show some signs of life, the Steelers finally showed some signs of life on this play, sending the Falcons back 13 yards as Anthony Chickillo beats his man to sack Atlanta quarterback Matt Simms.

Note: It was difficult to find a true play of the game on the defensive side of the ball. I errored in favor of this sack, as it stopped the Falcons momentum and helped the defense held their opponent to only three points on what appeared to be another promising drive.

Jordan Dangerfield‘s two interceptions were rather easy and Mike Hilton’s would-be sack could’ve been my choice for “the play”, had it held up as a safety!
