Playing time tracker for Steelers vs. Jaguars

Other than a lopsided loss, there weren’t too many surprises when it comes to who saw the field on Sunday when the Pittsburgh Steelers came up short against the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-9.

On offense, all of the starting offensive linemen for this game played its entirety. Ben Roethlisberger has yet to leave the field in 2017. Right tackle Marcus Gilbert did not play in this game, still nursing a hamstring injury.

Others seeing 90% or better of the workload were Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, and Jesse James. Slot receiver Eli Rogers was a healthy scratch for the second straight week allowing JuJu Smith-Schuster to once again set a career-high for playing time, this time with 65 snaps or 82% of all plays. That was, even more, time than Martavis Bryant, who was questionable coming into Sunday’s game (illness) ended up with (62 snaps).

The dropoff from there is dramatic, as Vance McDonald played 15 snaps, Roosevelt Nix only saw 13, and all others played six or less: B.J. Finney, James Conner, Justin Hunter, and Darrius Heyward-Bey. The latter two receivers each came in to substitute Brown and Bryant late in the game and were then pulled after a play or two to allow the starters back in.

On defense, James Harrison was a healthy scratch as well for a second straight week. Ryan Shazier was the iron man on this side of the ball, playing a full game a fourth time (out of five games) this season. Cornerbacks Artie Burns and Joe Haden were each pulled for one play for additional linebackers, Tyler Matakevich and L.J. Fort, in a goalline subpackage.

A few other numbers which stood out included J.J. Wilcox (six snaps) coming in early for Mike Mitchell, and Anthony Chickillo (five snaps) and Arthur Moats (two snaps) spelling Bud Dupree (94%) and T.J. Watt (93%).

Sean Davis was also removed for Robert Golden late, as the latter entered the game for four plays.

Mike Hilton (31%) and Javon Hargrave (61%) continue to be the chess pieces moved around depending on what the opponent has on the field.
