Chasing History: Antonio Brown

With Sunday’s performance against the San Francisco 49ers, Antonio Brown launched into a select category among Steeler greats. He became the 4th player to ever record 400 receptions. More impressive, he did so with a franchise record fewest games (72) which is also the third-fewest games needed to surpass 400 catches in NFL history.

Chasing history, here’s a rundown of where Brown stands after Sunday’s game:

  • Recorded game highs in receptions (9) and receiving yards (195, the second-highest single-game total of his career) with one receiving touchdown.
  • Has registered at least one reception in 74 consecutive games in which he has played, including the postseason – dating back to October 3, 2010.
  • Hauled in his 400th career reception on his first catch to join Hines Ward (1,000), Heath Miller (540) and John Stallworth (537) as the only players in Steelers history with at least 400 receptions.
  • Reached 400 career receptions with his first catch in today’s game – his 72nd regular-season game – tying Kellen Winslow as the third-fewest games played to total 400 career receptions in NFL history (Anquan Boldin: 67, Larry Fitzgerald: 71).
  • Set a franchise record for the fewest games played (72) to record 400 receptions (Hines Ward: 92, Heath Miller: 122 and John Stallworth: 128)
  • Extended his current regular season game streak with a touchdown reception to four – only the second such streak of his NFL career (four games: Dec. 9, 2012 – Dec. 30, 2012).
  • Moved into sole possession for 10th on the team’s all-time touchdown reception chart with his 30th career scoring grab
  • With 195 yards from scrimmage, moved into eighth place in team history with 5,669.
  • Surpassed Lynn Swann (5,462) for the fifth-most receiving yards in franchise history with 5,587.
  • Recorded the 18th 100-yard receiving game of his career, moving into a tie (Buddy Dial) for the third-most 100 yard performances in Steelers history.
  • Following his 133 receiving yards in Week 1, opened the 2015 regular season with consecutive 100-yard receiving games for the fi rst time in his NFL career.
  • Has totaled at least 100 receiving yards in three consecutive regular-season games – dating back to Dec. 28, 2014 – the longest streak of his NFL career.
  • Is the third Steelers player (fourth occasion) since 1960 to have 100 receiving yards in three consecutive games, joining Mike Wallace (6 games, 2010-11, 3 games 2010) and Hines Ward (3 games, 2002).
  • Surpassed 100 receiving yards in the first half of the game for the fourth time in his NFL career.
  • Set a single-game career-high for the most receiving yards in the first half of a game with 128.
  • Extended his NFL records to 34 consecutive games with at least five catches for 50 yards, 20 straight games with at least five catches for 70 receiving yards and 13 consecutive games with seven catches.
