Antonio Brown, the Steelers $10 million dollar man

Wanna know what consistency looks like? Look no further than Antonio Brown.

Yesterday, the Steelers rewarded Brown with some extra money. They pulled $4 million from 2017 into this year’s $6.25 million base salary, which makes Brown the $10.25 million dollar man this season. Brown’s current contract expiries in 2018, it was the, exact, same contract that was offered to, former Steeler, Mike Wallace. Wallace didn’t like the contract, so he took his talents to South Beach, or something.

I couldn’t care less if I sound like a “homer” when I say this, but Antonio Brown is the best WR in the league. Period.

Even with this restructured deal, Brown is still underpaid. Out of curiosity, let’s see how much the other top-tier receivers in the NFL are making:

  1. Julio Jones: 5-year contract worth $71,256,045, with an average salary of $14,251,209 per year, with $35,500,000 guaranteed.
  2. Dez Bryant: 5-year contract worth $70,000,000, with an average salary of $14,000,000 per year, with $32,000,000 guaranteed.
  3. Demaryius Thomas: 5-year contract worth $70,000,000, with an average salary of $14,000,000 per year, with $35,000,000 guaranteed.
  4. T.Y. Hilton: 5-year contract worth $65,000,000, with an average salary of $13,000,000 per year, with $11,000,000 guaranteed.
  5. A.J. Green: 4-year contract worth $60,000,000, with an average salary of $15,000,000 per year, with $26,750,000 guaranteed.

When these five contracts were signed, Antonio Brown continued to have excellent character and model consistency. He kept going to every mini camp, every practice, every training camp. He didn’t complain, gripe, or take a day off. He kept being his normal self, played hard, caught balls, and broke records. He trusted that the Steelers management would reward him for his selfless attitude, and they did, by giving him $10 million dollars.

Brown finished second in receiving, behind Julio Jones, last season with 1,834 yards. I firmly believe that if Ben had stayed healthy last year, Brown would’ve finished first.

I think I speak for all of Steelers Nation when I say: I don’t ever want to see AB in another uniform. Ever.
