Stats that stood out: Steelers set 2017 NFL records and milestones

Individually and as a team, the Steelers set NFL records and milestones during the 2017 regular season.

The Steelers

  • Won the AFC North division title, their eighth division title since
  • Led the NFL with 56
  • QB BEN ROETHLISBERGER ranked fifth in the NFL with 4,251 passing yards, his franchise-record fifth season with at least 4,000 passing
  • Roethlisberger had at least two touchdown passes in seven consecutive games (Weeks 10-16), the longest streak in team
  • RB LE’VEON BELL ranked second in the NFL with 1,946 scrimmage yards, the third-most in a single season in franchise history. Has 7,996 career scrimmage yards, the most by a player in his first five seasons in franchise history.
  • Bell led all NFL running backs with 85 catches, the most receptions by a running back in a single season in team
  • WR ANTONIO BROWN led the NFL with 1,533 receiving yards and became the first player in franchise history to lead the NFL in receiving yards multiple times. Brown also led the league in receiving in 2014 with 1,698.
    It was his sixth season with at least 1,000 receiving yards, tying HINES WARD (six) for the most such seasons in franchise history.
  • Bell (1,684 scrimmage yards) and Brown (1,509 receiving yards) became the first pair of teammates in NFL history with at least 1,500 scrimmage yards each through their team’s first 13 games of a season.
  • WR JU JU SMITH-SCHUSTER had 917 receiving yards, the most receiving yards by a rookie in franchise history.

Le’Veon Bell

  • Led the AFC in scrimmage yards (1,946) and ranked second in rushing yards (1,291).
  • Had 6,286 career scrimmage yards through his 50th career game in Week 3, the fourth- most in NFL history in a player’s first 50 games.

Chris Boswell

  • Became the first kicker since the 1970 merger to make a game-winning field goal with under one minute remaining in the fourth quarter in three consecutive games (Weeks 12-14).

Antonio Brown

  • Led the NFL with 1,533 receiving yards and ranked fifth with 101
  • Became the only player in NFL history with five consecutive 100-catch seasons.
  • Has 582 receptions since 2013 and surpassed Pro Football Hall of Famer MARVIN HARRISON (563 from 1999-2003) for the most catches by a player over any five- year span in NFL
  • Has 7,848 receiving yards since 2013 and surpassed Harrison (7,594 from 1999-2003) for the most receiving yards by a player over any five-year span in NFL history.
  • Reached 700 career receptions in Week 11 in his 111th career game, the fewest games to reach the milestone in NFL
  • Reached 9,000 career receiving yards in Week 6 in his 107th career game, tied with RANDY MOSS for the fourth-fewest games to reach the milestone in NFL history.
  • Had six games with at least 10 catches and 100 receiving yards this season, tied for the second-most in a single season in NFL history. Only ANDRE JOHNSON (seven in
    2008) had more such games in a season.

JuJu Smith-Schuster

  • Had 1,157 all-purpose yards (917 receiving, 240 kickoff-return) and is the youngest player in NFL history to record 1,000 all-purpose yards in a
  • Had a touchdown catch in Week 2 and, at 20 years old, became the youngest player to score a touchdown in the NFL since 1964 (Chicago’s ANDY LIVINGSTON) and the youngest player to catch a touchdown pass since 1930 (Green Bay’s ARNIE HERBER).
  • Had five touchdown receptions before his 21st birthday, the most in NFL history by a player younger than 21 years old.

T.J. Watt

  • Had two sacks and an interception in Week 1 and became the first player to record at least two sacks and an interception in an NFL debut on Kickoff Weekend since individual sacks became an official statistic in 1982.
