Plays of the Year: A peek into the Steelers future?

Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the tops runs, catches, hits and everything else in-between for the Steelers 2017 season.

Okay, sometimes it can be like watching paint dry. It’s also an imposter to the regular season, with players suiting up for battle who will likely never see the regular season roster or get a helmet on game day.

However, there are some bright spots in the preseason. You get to take a glimpse of what could be an alternate universe version of NFL teams. Sometimes, those alternate realities turn into the actual reality, with players standing out and ascending from mediocrity to superstardom.

This play from Week 4 of the Steelers 2017 preseason is an example of what could be. With all of the starters sitting in the preseason finale, Pittsburgh traveled to Carolina to play the Panthers.

Falling to a 7-0 lead to the Carolina Panthers on the road. A muffed punt led to Pittsburgh getting the ball back on their own 42-yard line. That’s when Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley dialed up the deep ball, calling for Justin Hunter to out-run his defender and see if rookie QB Joshua Dobbs’ arm could complete the play.

(And this time, Hunter doesn’t lose his shoe as he did on a similar play call in Week 3!)
