Plays of the Year: JuJu channeling his inner JuJu

Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the tops runs, catches, hits and everything else in-between for the Steelers 2017 season.

It’s not often fans feel like thanking NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, but instances such as this one from the 2017 season show that the figurehead of the organization took the “No Fun League” comments seriously when he spearheaded relaxing rules on touchdown celebrations last year.

That allowed players, such as the Steelers young receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (who was the youngest player in the league) to express their creative freedom.

This play is the one which may have started the JuJu celebration craze last season, as the second-round rookie scored a big touchdown at home against Pittsburgh’s biggest rival, the Baltimore Ravens. JuJu’s touchdown capped off four scoring drives by the Steelers in the first half, giving them a 19-0 lead at halftime.

But that’s not the most memorable portion of this great play (where Smith-Schuster breaks off of his route and frees himself for Ben Roethlisberger’s pass). What will be remembered for a long time to come is JuJu’s touchdown celebration, courtesy of a popular comic book!

It was the first of many memorable moments for Smith-Schuster… and we’re looking forward to many more in 2018!
