Plays of the Year: Vince Williams sacks DeShone Kizer

Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the tops runs, catches, hits and everything else in-between for the Steelers 2017 season.

Filling Lawrence Timmons‘ shoes was thought to be a difficult job when the Steelers passed on the veteran linebacker in free agency during the 2017 offseason in order to make way for Vince Williams as the starter.

There was a bit of hesitancy by fans, as Timmons was a former first round draft pick, but Williams was taken late, as a sixth round pick. Williams had sporadically started over the course of his pro career, but was never a full-time starter until now.

How would Williams do in 2017? Well, Williams statistically surpassed something that even Timmons never did in his entire career: an 8-sack single season.

With this sack in the final week of the regular season, Williams walked past he predecessor with sack number eight.

Overall, the Steelers set a team franchise record and took the league lead for sacks with 56.
