Players, coaches, and fans all want the same thing: to win

It’s very easy to be an armchair quarterback or coach. As someone who recently started writing about football, it sometimes bothers me when I read someone’s woulda’, shoulda’, coulda’ opinions.

Professional football players spend countless hours watching film, working out, practicing, learning the playbook, attending meetings and taking care of their bodies. Many of them are also involved in community outreach and various charitable endeavors where they volunteer time (often on their days off) and donate their own money to help with different causes.

Do I really think that I want to win games more than they do?

Of course not!

Coaches, as well, spend hour upon hour coming up with game plans, having meetings, watching film and fulfilling media requirements. They also spend a large amount of time preparing for the draft and evaluating players.

Why am I saying this?

Because sometimes I think we, as fans, can believe that we want to win games and championships more than the coaches and players on the field.

Do I believe that sometimes players or coaches don’t put forth the effort they are capable of?

Yes. But do I believe that happens frequently?

Absolutely not!

So the next time I find myself screaming at the television during a game, I will stop and remind myself that the men on that field probably want to win that game a whole lot more than I do. It’s still frustrating and heartbreaking but reminding myself of this helps a little!
