Steelers Throwback Thursday: Troy Polamalu jumps snap count and stuffs Kerry Collins

Steel City Underground presents “Steelers Throwback Thursday” featuring plays from recent seasons which you may have forgotten about! Now we’re “bringing them back!”

I would say this is quite possibly the defining play of Troy Polamalu’s career if it weren’t for the future Hall of Fame safety having many defining plays in his career!

Calling things even, this famous tackle of Titans QB Kerry Collins tells us something not only about Polamalu’s field presence, but his never quit attitude.

Up 19-3 with a little over one-minute remaining in the game, the Titans look to score quickly from the goal line. Collins executes a quick count, but Polamalu has the play read the entire time.

Many have tried, but #43 is often imitated and never duplicated. His timing even shook teammate James Harrison (#92) who just arrives at the crime scene late and inspects the evidence his hands on his hips, nodding in approval as he processes what just occurred.

The play happened so fast that I don’t think anyone watching it in real-time could process it either. Thankfully the cameraman wasn’t asleep and we caught several angles of this all-time Steelers highlight play! (Pittsburgh would give up a score two plays later, but held on to win 19-11.)
