The Steelers 26-21 victory at home against the Denver Broncos provided many heart-pounding moments. However, Steelers rookie Chase Claypool showed Steelers fans why he is a force to be reckoned with this season and he made his mark early.

As Pittsburgh looked to improve to 2-0 after a dominating performance against the New York Giants, in typical Steeler fashion, they had a few early bumps. After a slow first quarter, Pittsburgh up 7-3, gets the ball back with 6:34 left in the second after a Denver punt. Starting on their own 16-yard line, it only took eleven seconds to watch Chase Claypool display his magic on the football field.

Claypool is matched up against Denver rookie Michael Ojemudia one on one. Ben Roethlisberger snaps the ball and Claypool beats his man off the snap on an outside release up the sideline. Ben then launches it and Claypool hauls in the catch while tip-toeing the sideline and burns the defense for an 84-yard touchdown, the first of his young career.

The officials reviewed the play to make sure that he did not step out of bounds. However, the play stood after review.

“I knew I had a pretty good chance to get the ball,” said Claypool. “I kinda just went on the route, Ben just put it in a perfect spot to get it. It was pretty cool.”

This one play shows that Pittsburgh knows better than anyone about drafting wide receivers. Claypool displayed his size, strength, and speed all in this one play. He would finish the game with 3 catches for 88 yards with the one score.

His only score was a very key moment that opened the game up for the offense. Pittsburgh needs to continue to get him involved because he is such a mismatch against opposing defenses.

As Pittsburgh moves on to Houston, fans eagerly await to see more of number 11 in the coming games.
