Plays of the Year: Terrell Edmunds sack sends Steelers to victory, 2-0 start

It’s not often that the Steelers send safety blitzes – in fact, entering his third NFL season in 2020, former first-round pick Terrell Edmunds only had one sack to his credit over a span of 33 games played.

That changed on the first Sunday afternoon game played at Heinz Field during Week 2 of the 2020 regular season.

Clinging to a 26-21 lead, the Steelers defense was trying to stave off a comeback attempt by the Denver Broncos. Led by backup quarterback Jeff Driskel (who entered the game after starter Drew Lock was injured in the first quarter) Denver threatened in the closing moments after receiving the ball with 6:08 remaining in the game.

After gaining 20 yards on the drive, moving to their own 38-yard line, Denver faced a 3rd-and-2.

An incomplete pass left them in a 4th-and-2 situation, with the game on the line.

The Steelers, who had sent just about everyone on blitzes all day long, lined up Edmunds on the line of scrimmage, and seeing that no one covered him, he made a beeline toward Driskel, bringing him down with the result a turnover on downs.

With the Steelers offense getting the ball back, they would seal the deal and rundown the remainder of the clock, recording their second-straight win on the season by a final score of 26-21 over the Broncos.
