In the Pittsburgh Steelers’ final dress rehearsal of the 2022 NFL preseason, Mitchell Trubisky was given the nod to be the starting quarterback, and was able to run an efficient two-minute drill in the second quarter, something head coach Mike Tomlin wanted to examine ahead of regular season play.

Trubisky had two passes that stood out on review of the series.

With 28 seconds left on the clock, the Steelers went no huddle. Trubisky lined up in the shotgun with three receivers to his right and one to his left. With decent protection, Trubisky got rid of the ball quickly to George Pickens along the left sideline.

Pickens, who’s had an excellent rookie camp and preseason, showed excellent awareness and was able to position himself in order to secure the ball in tight coverage before being pushed out of bounds.

On the very next play, from the shotgun, Trubisky stood tall in the pocket after the snap and read the defense before drilling a pass between the Detroit Lions defense to put the ball in tight end Pat Freiermuth‘s sure hands. The play went for 22 yards and moved the Steelers to the Lions’ six-yard line.

Demonstrating some of the best execution in his time on the field, Trubisky handled the drive like a veteran.

The passes to Pickens and Freiermuth put the Lions on their heels and paved the way for a six-yard touchdown pass to Steven Sims; the first points put on the scoreboard outside of Chris Boswell field goals.

Trubisky finished his time on the field having completed 15-of-19 passes for 160 yards and the touchdown for a QB percentage of 119.3.
