In Week 10 of the 2022 NFL regular season, the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-6) played host to the New Orleans Saints (3-6). Coming off of their bye week, the Steelers had no way to know that one player they’d shuffled into their defensive lineup would have as big of an impact in the game as he did.

The Steelers defense got T.J. Watt and Damontae Kazee back from injured/reserved in time to suit them up against the Saints, which worked out well once it was discovered that Minkah Fitzpatrick was suffering from an appendix issue and would miss the game.

Pittsburgh also dressed Levi Wallace at cornerback to bolster a backfield that has seen its share of ups and downs all season. Ultimately, Wallace would help the Steelers win the turnover game… and the actual game with two heads-up plays.

With just 5:33 left in the game, the Saints offense took over down just ten points and hoping to take a shot at a comeback. On the first play of the series, Alex Highsmith beat his assignment to put a hit on Saints quarterback Andy Dalton that resulted in a strip-sack that New Orleans was able to recover.

Dalton threw a short pass Wallace’s direction to Alvin Kamara that was completed, and may have thought he could continue to test the right sideline.

Wallace put a stop to those ideas.

On the very next play, Dalton threw a deep ball along the right sideline, intended for receiver Kevin White who had only been targeted three times since joining the Saints this season. Wallace got into great position, staying tight in coverage, and put his body in between White and the ball to earn the Steelers secondary’s second takeaway of the game.

Earlier in the quarter, Wallace had tipped a pass over the middle intended for Jarvis Landry that Kazee grabbed out of the air for the first takeaway by the Steelers secondary.

The duo proved to be formidable in limiting the Saints’ passing game and helped the Steelers defense pitch a shutout; New Orleans never put another point on the scoreboard after the halftime break.
