Watch: McCrane kicks game-winner against the Bengals

Steel City Underground will pick a play of the game from each side of the ball each week of the Steelers 2018 season. Stay tuned as we hand select the very best from the black and gold!

Embattled Steelers kicker Chris Boswell was placed on IR earlier last week, leaving one of his potential replacements, an undrafted rookie named Matt McCrane, as his actual replacement for the Steelers regular season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals.

McCrane had competed a few weeks earlier against Boswell and veteran Kai Forbath to see if the team should move on from Boz, who had struggled mightily with missing kicks and point after attempts throughout the 2018 season.

McCrane came in as a breath of fresh air for Steelers fans who wanted an alternative, but probably didn’t realize that the kicker had his own struggles earlier in the season when he was playing for the Oakland Raiders. That tension combined with Boswell’s blunders had everyone holding their breath in the fourth quarter of a 13-13 game, where McCrane lined up for a 35-yard field goal: his third attempt of the day, which would sail through the uprights and give the Steelers the go-ahead score in a 16-13 victory.

McCrane would be given the game ball by the team following the conculsion of the game.
