Joe is a graduate of Youngstown State University, with a degree in Professional Writing and Editing. Born and raised in another “Steel City”, Youngstown, Ohio, he often commutes to his second-home of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for all sorts of tomfoolery, including craft brewery visits, Pens, and Pirates games… and of course, nearly every Steelers home game (and some road games as well).

Flanked by his wife and young daughter, between family, work and everything else, Joe doesn’t know the definition “free time”. A web developer and social media manager by trade, he pounds away with his passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers whenever there’s an open moment; whether that’s recording a new podcast, writing a new article, or searching for an upgrade to his tailgating setup, he lives and breathes the “black and gold”.

In 2014, Joe founded Steel City Underground to satisfy his need to discuss Steelers. In 2016, he expanded the SCU platform to weekly podcasts.

Some of Joe’s hobbies (outside of Pittsburgh sports) include traveling and bingeing on movies and TV shows. Joe also has over 20 years of soccer officiating experience, working everything from youth to amateur levels, and also professional games. He still spends time every Fall working collegiate games in multiple conferences and divisions throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New York.

Combining a unique blend of high-level sports experience with a writing degree, Joe helps maintain that Steel City Underground will always be a website full of opinions based on professionalism and integrity.

A visual representation of the Steelers offensive woes last season

My previous column entitled Steelers fans should STOP asking to sign another quarterback stirred up some controversy from those who feel the team’s current backup situation, behind Ben Roethlisberger, is less than adequate. However, I wonder what the 2019 season may have held in some alternate dimension where either Ben ...
