Quick Yinzing: Edelman miracle catch propels Patriots duo past Noll and Bradshaw record

Yeah yeah yeah. Blah blah blah.

I can already hear the already obnoxious Boston (Bah-stan) fans gloating over their savior Tom Brady.

Yuck. Gag. Vomit.

Let’s be honest here: Edelman makes the luckiest catch in the world, and now you have Patriots fans strutting around like peacocks.

Let’s also be honest about something else: for every fan who ever called for the firing of a head coach, offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator, let’s see if any of those guys lose their jobs. New England had a miserable first half, while Atlanta had a horrible second half.

No one’s getting fired, but just to prove my point, there was a lot of bad things which mirrored the very stuff that Steelers fans bemoaned all season. There were players dropping passes, missed tackles, miracle plays you couldn’t do anything about, and most importantly, constant complaining about running versus passing… with exception of the next-to-last Atlanta possession, I don’t think social media gets it right ten times out of ten.

Oh, and Atlanta played man coverage too.

Now that series I was talking about… Falcons run the ball there a few times, and the Patriots have to burn their timeouts, and it’s like that Matt Bryant, one of the more accurate kickers in the NFL (who is well into his 40’s and still getting the job done) puts up a long distance field goal and… game over.

On a whole other note, I’m incredibly annoyed by the inconsistency of the NFL’s officials.

Yes, I’m going there.

Before the game kicks off, FOX analyst, and Vice President of Officiating for the NFL, said the referees would be watching for pick plays.

If you’re not familiar with what a pick play is, it’s when another receiver physically runs interference into the defense to “pick” off that defender, and not allow him to make a play. The word comes from basketball, where a pick is a usual tactic, but in the NFL, it’s illegal.

And what do we get on the two-point conversion by New England? Not one, but two picks set for Danny Amendola to score!

(Eyes rolling.)

Yes, this was still Atlanta’s game to not mess up. They had Tom Brady rattled, they forced turnovers, they went up big before half… and blew it. Matt Ryan fumbled right into giving the Patriots excellent field position and a chance to come back.

Again, this comes back to being in field goal position, running the ball instead of passing (and getting sacked out of field goal range) to make it a two score game.

So there you have it. Following two missed opportunities for interceptions near the end (Edelman’s miracle catch, and a Brady TD pass attempt in OT) Belichick and Tom Brady surpass Chuck Noll and Terry Bradshaw‘s four Super Bowl wins.

Now mind me while I decide to not watch the NFL any longer… well, until next September that is…
