SCU Awards: MVPs (from a female point of view!)

For the last week and a half, Steel City Underground has distributed “awards” voted on by a panel of our writers, for various categories of performances during the 2016 season. Several Steelers have already “won” awards for Rookie of the Year, Offensive MVP, Comeback Player, “Over 30” veteran, Special Teamer and Underdog.

Local and national sports media have also crowned their own “best of the best” with the NFL MVP being awarded to Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan, the Steelers awarding their Team MVP to Le’Veon Bell and many more than could fit in this article.

Regardless, everyone has their opinions, and I thought, why not take this in another direction. Since the female demographic is an untapped, or should I say underrated, market for the NFL, I thought I would add another list of “MVPs” to the 2016 SCU Awards: why not take a look at the “true” MVPs from a woman’s point of view?

Who has the best hair?

Best… “features”?

I mean “our” view is the only one that counts right? (Especially if we are talking about men?)

Okay, you guys can join in too, but you’ve been warned: these “awards” are hardly based on football!

Best Abs

This was a toss up. After seeing how well-conditioned Le’Veon Bell was when he came back following a knee injury, it was hard to pick someone else. However, when Ryan Shazier is warming up every week without a shirt, it’s hard to ignore! He “flashes” us every week, no matter the weather!

Let’s call this one a tie. Bell and Shazier get the MVP for “best abs”.

Best Arms

Okay, we had a tie for the first category, but this one doesn’t need a vote. James Harrison wins this award hands down… or should we say, pecs up?

Best Butt

Yeah I said it.

Of course we look at and check out our guys in those tight uniform pants. Those football pants are to women as yoga pants women wear are to men: we love them!

This was another tough pick, so I had to do some research… I came to the conclusion that the MVP for “best butt” is Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Hey-Bey’s butt, you just want to… nevermind! Onto the next topic!

Best Smile

Does anyone else’s smile shine as brightly as Antonio Brown‘s? Can we think of anyone else who smiles as much? Just look at those pearly whites!

No one else comes close to winning this category, period.

Best Looking

This is a subjective choice, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Good looks are opinionated, based on what you personally find attractive, cute, or whatever you’d like to call it. (Hot maybe?)

So who is the MVP for “hotness”?

Alejandro Villaneuva.

He’s six-foot-nine-inches, 310 lbs. of all man. That face, that smile, and his military background? Who can deny a man in uniform? (Football or military!)

Yeah, my socks are rolling up at every USAA commercial the Steelers offensive tackles appears in!

Most Loved BFF’s

Someone’s going to ask this, so let’s define what “BFF” means: “Best Friends Forever”.

This is an award for the two players that are just so cute together, and seem to not be able to live without each other in their lives. We love them both, but we love them more as BFFs.

Of course we’re talking about DeAngelo Williams and Chris Boswell.

I think Chris is more infatuated with D-Will, but we know the latter loves “The Wizard”.

Just check out some of their Twitter banter.

Reminds me of that movie Grumpy Old Men.

Best Fan Interaction

Arthur Moats not only engages with fans and responds to their Twitter comments, but so do his wife and kids. He is the kindest man ever, but also beast on the field.

He is always active with charities, and was nominated as the Steelers representative for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

I love this guy, and you should too.

Best Hands

This may come as a surprise to most, because you would think I would be looking at a wide receiver for this award.

I’m not.

Let’s face it: Ben Roethlisberger has some great hands. Big Ben’s pump fakes confuse defenders and cameramen at the same time. I don’t know how he keeps the ball from coming out, but he does. Therefore, Ben has the best hands!

Best Hair

Antonio Brown might have the market cornered on hairstyle, but as soon as Bud Dupree returned fro Injured Reserve, those dreads were flying around everywhere!

Dupree received the best hair award for those lovely locks.

Best Dressed

When the “business trip” comes up, I am always looking at the suit James Harrison is wearing. But I have to say, Lawrence Timmons is right in there too.

To win this award you just have to kill it, so James gets a second nod here for his suits. (Dapper for sure.)

Best Teammate

Ramon Foster is my choice, hands down.

After Foster threw Giants LB Kelvin Sheppard off of a pile of players laying on top of Le’Veon Bell,  I saw what kind of teammate he is. Ramon is one of several protectors on the team, but it was clear he was not having any of it that day. Ramon was defending his guy, and bluntly said he’d do it again.

Antonio Brown also let him spike the football after AB’s game-winning, division-and-playoff clinching touchdown against the Ravens. Who does that if Foster isn’t a great teammate?

In addition to his on-field play, Foster is also the go-to guy for the NFLPA info for the Steelers. He’s an all-around great teammate and person, and thus my pick for this particular award.
