Running the Numbers: What to look for when the Steelers play the Patriots

  • With a win over Patriots, the Steelers would improve to 456-284-2 during the regular season since 1970.
  • The Steelers look to improve to 15-11 all-time against the Patriots in regular-season history and to 11-7 at home against New England.
  • The Steelers look to extend their current win streak to nine with a win on Sunday.
  • With a win, the Steelers will have won each of their previous seven games in the month of December, dating back to Dec. 4, 2016 vs. NY Giants.
  • With a win, the Steelers will have won each of their previous 10 home games in the month of December, dating back to Dec. 15, 2013 vs. Cincinnati.

Head Coach Mike Tomlin

  • A win would improve Tomlin to 115-59 during the regular season (65-22 at home).
  • With a win, would move to 86-44 in regular-season games vs. AFC (48-17 at home).
  • Looks to improve to 3-5 in his regular-season Steelers tenure against the Patriots and to 2-2 at home.
  • With a win, would improve to 32-13 in the month of December and to 21-6 at home during the month.

Ben Roethlisberger

  • With a win, would improve to 135-62 as a starter during the regular season and to 75-23 at home.
  • With a win, would improve to 4-5 vs. New England in the regular season as a starter and to 3-2 at home vs. the Patriots.
  • With a win, will move to 41-14 in regular-season games in the month of December, including 25-8 at home.

Le’Veon Bell

  • His next 100-yard rushing game will mark the 18th of his NFL career.
  • Will tie Kordell Stewart (35) for the third-most rushing touchdowns in franchise history with two touchdown runs.
  • Is two touchdowns from scrimmage from tying Buddy Dial (42) for the 10th-most touchdowns in team history.
  • Is 229 rushing yards from surpassing Willie Parker (5,378) for the third most in Steelers history.

Antonio Brown

  • Will increase his Steelers record for the most 100-yard receiving games in team history to 38 with his next 100-yard game.
  • Needs one touchdown to break a tie with John Stallworth (64) for sole possession of the fourth-most total touchdowns by a Steeler in team history (rushing+receiving+returning).
  • Is four touchdown catches from tying John Stallworth (63) for the second-most in franchise history.
  • With 100 catches in 2017, will become the first player in NFL history to record 100 or more receptions in five consecutive years.

Cameron Heyward

  • Will extend his single-season career-high in sacks with his next quarterback takedown (9.0 in 2017).
  • Is one sack shy of recording 10.0 in 2017 to mark the 19th time a Steeler defender has totaled at least 10.0 sacks in a single-season since sacks became an official statistic in 1982 and become the first since 2010 (James Harrison: 10.5 and LaMarr Woodley: 10.0).

James Harrison

  • Is 2.5 sacks from 85.0 in his NFL career.

William Gay

  • Will break a tie with Rod Woodson to set the record for the most interceptions returned for touchdowns in team history with his next pick six of six.

Chris Boswell

  • Is three field goals shy of setting a new single-season team record (Norm Johnson, 1995, 34).
