Who are the Steelers going to play next week?

After seeing some comments on the Internet about the Pittsburgh Steelers potential playoff opponents following their bye week, I felt it was important to take a quick look at each team in the AFC and the possibility of them traveling to Heinz Field for the Divisional round.

Here are the results.

Buffalo Bills

As the 6th seed, the Bills are the lowest entrant on the AFC side of the tournament, which means if they were to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend, they would travel to play New England in the Divisional round.

Quite literally, the Steelers can’t play them as their first playoff opponent, which leaves three options on the table: all three are opponents the Steelers have played during the regular season.

Tennessee Titans

Coming in as the 5 seed, the Titans would only face the Steelers if they and the Bills both win their games. As mentioned above, the lowest seed goes to New England, so if Jaguars and Titans win, that means the Titans are the lowest remaining seed and would play the Patriots.

Kansas City Chiefs

The 4 seed in the AFC, Kansas City could travel to Pittsburgh next weekend should the Buffalo Bills upset the Jaguars on the road.

This would be an interesting matchup based on previous meetings between the two teams, including a rough battle in last year’s Divisional playoff game, where the Steelers went on the road and beat Kansas City in their own stadium.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The most likely scenario would see the AFC’s 3 seed, Jacksonville, travel to Pittsburgh for a return bout with the Steelers.

The first encounter is embedded in everyone’s mind as it’s the game Ben Roethlisberger threw five interceptions, including two pick-sixes, in.

Roethlisberger was quoted on his weekly radio show as wanting a shot at redemption: will he get it?
