Pittsburgh Steelers 2019 NFL mock draft roundup

The 2019 NFL Draft is finally here! Who do the experts think the Pittsburgh Steelers will take in this year’s draft?

Good question!

That’s why I scoured the Internet for various mock drafts from a variety of websites to compile analyst picks for the Steelers. Some are the same and others are wild.

Here’s a breakdown of some of those picks.

Note: All picks are first-round selections.

CBS Sports (Will Brinson)

Devin Bush, LB, Michigan

What they said:

Man this draft is deep. And the Steelers benefit greatly from it, snagging a sideline-to-sideline linebacker they badly need to help shore up the middle of their defense.

Washington Post (John Clayton)

Devin Bush, LB, Michigan

What they said:

The Steelers need a playmaker at inside linebacker, and they would turn their draft card in very quickly if Bush or LSU’s White fell to them at this spot.

Walter Football

Devin Bush, LB, Michigan

What they said:

Pittsburgh’s defense has taken a big step backward ever since it lost Ryan Shazier to his unfortunate injury. I have to believe that the Steelers will be interested in a highly athletic linebacker like Devin Bush to take Shazier’s place.

Bush is an explosive linebacker who could be the second player at the position off the board in the first round, following Devin White.

Greedy Williams, CB, LSU

What they said:

The Steelers need to address the corner position. Williams has an intriguing blend of size, speed and ball skills.

Bleacher Report (Matt Miller)

Greedy Williams, CB, LSU

What they said:

2016 first-round pick Artie Burns hasn’t worked out for the Steelers, which puts cornerback near the top of their needs. Finding speed, length and someone who can step in as a starter from day one is key.

In this scenario, the Steelers are in line to snag the best cornerback, LSU’s Greedy Williams, at No. 20 due to the run on quarterbacks and edge-rushers.

After running a 4.37-second 40 at 6’2″ and 185 pounds, Williams fits the mold of the fast, long plug-and-play starter the Steelers are desperate for.

Greedy Williams, CB, LSU

What they said:

Their secondary is a problem that needs fixing. Williams is the best of the weak corner group.

Penn Live (Daniel Gallen)

A.J. Brown, WR, Ole Miss

What they said:

The Steelers aren’t going to replace Antonio Brown in one draft, but A.J. Brown could be a solid running mate for JuJu Smith-Schuster.

NFL.com (Bucky Brooks)

Byron Murphy, CB, Washington

What they said:

The Steelers need to find a young CB1 with playmaking skills. Murphy is a five-star player with outstanding skills on the island.

Pro Football Focus (Chris Collinsworth)

Marquise Brown, WR, Oklahoma

What they said:

Even though the Steelers and Mike Tomlin are great at developing receivers in the lower rounds, the loss of Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell screams for something exciting for Big Ben. ‘Hollywood’ Brown is so lightning quick and fast, it makes it very dangerous to ever play man coverage against him. The danger here is the foot injury that may not be healed for the start of the season even though he says it will. If the Steelers are looking for a splash pick, Brown is the most exciting player in this draft class.

Conclusion

If last year’s mock drafts were any indication, none of these players may hear their name called for the Steelers… which would give me a sad face!

Among last year’s “expert picks” were Rashaan Evans, Leighton Vander Esch, Tremaine Edmunds (not Terrell), Jaire Alexander, and QB Josh Allen.

Hopefully, one of the names above (Bush, Greedy, Murphy) is a Pittsburgh Steeler after the draft unfolds!
