Watch: Alex Highsmith snags his first career interception

Steel City Underground will pick a play of the game from each side of the ball each week of the Steelers 2020 season. Stay tuned as we hand-select the very best from the Black and Gold!

After an epic rivalry matchup, the Pittsburgh Steelers remain the only team with a perfect record at 7-0.

It feels so good to say that right now. Do you know what else is good? Seeing a member of your Alma Mater getting his first career interception at the most crucial part in the game.

After the Steelers punted early in the 3rd, the Ravens get the ball back starting at their 17-yard-line. Lamar Jackson attempts a play-action fake to Mark Andrews but the rookie Alex Highsmith makes a quick read and rushes back in a zone and uses his body to snag the floater out of the air to tip the momentum in the Steelers favor.

Highsmith remarked after the game that he adjusted based off of the same play that was run in the first quarter. What is so impressive is he reacted so quickly and timed it perfectly.

In the words of Jeremy Clarkson, it is hard to not make a smug face, but I told you so. I knew that this guy was going to eventually work his way into the first-string defense and make an impact. (I wrote about this back in the off-season and now we get to see just the tip of the iceberg.)

Just to add salt into the wound, a rookie linebacker baited last year’s MVP into a game-changing interception. Need I say more?

Now with Baltimore out of the way, the undefeated Steelers move on to face the 2-6 Dallas Cowboys.
