Steelers: Top 4 anticipated matchups of 2022 season

The wait is over! On Thursday night, the National Football League revealed the official 2022-23 pre- and regular-season schedules for all 32 teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers. There is plenty to be excited about if you’re a member of Steelers Nation, so let’s look at the top matchups in the upcoming season.

Week 5: Steelers at Bills

The Steelers will be on the road to go head-to-head with a Buffalo Bills team that looks to keep their seat at the top of the AFC East. After beating the Bills in the opening game last season, this game should be one not to miss.

A rematch between T.J. Watt and Josh Allen will heat things up. Watt sacked Allen twice (one was a strip sack) in the 2021 game on his way to becoming the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Week 6: Steelers host Bucs

It’s been awhile since Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay have met on the field and, in October, nemesis Tom Brady – the guy who retired after losing the NFC Championship to the Los Angeles Rams last season – will return for one more go.

Although he won’t be in Patriots colors this time, Brady has a history against the Steelers. Pittsburgh will be rocking in what may turn into a grudge match for history. And bragging rights about championship rings.

Steelers home opener versus Patriots

New England would love to play spoiler at Heinz Field in the Steelers’ home opener in Week 2. Mac Jones enters his sophomore season in the league having completed 352 passes (67.4 avg) for 3801 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2021.

The Patriots aren’t the same team the Steelers used to battle tooth-and-nail with in recent seasons, but this game has historical implications as well when it comes to championships.

Season opener in Cincy

Last season proved the Cincinnati Bengals aren’t your daddy’s “Bungles” in the AFC North. Joe Burrow had a great comeback after a serious injury his rookie season.

Whether this rivalry heats up as the fight for the division for the Steelers once again may be determined on the road in Week 1. Fans will be excited, regardless, due to it being the first battle of the season.

Also considered: An immaculate 50

On Christmas Eve, the Steelers will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the NFL’s greatest play – the “Immaculate Reception” – by hosting the Las Vegas Raiders.

Granted, 50 years has seen these two legendary teams change personnel, players, and – for the Raiders – hometowns. Steelers fans will get an opportunity to celebrate the holidays, franchise history, and what looks like an exciting matchup.
