In what was a wild finish to a wild game, it all came down to the final seconds between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL regular season.

Pittsburgh was a major underdog traveling to the defending AFC Champions, but last season’s Super Bowl contender had a bit of a hangover, turning the ball over five times. Yet, they were still in it until the end of regulation, as QB Joe Burrow found his favorite target, WR Jamarr Chase, to tie the game with two seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

However, Cincinnati’s long snapper was injured during the game – sending a backup tight end into his spot for what would’ve been a game-winning extra point attempt… if successful.

Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who has been known to create chaos on special teams plays, had a different outcome in mind.

As the backup long snapper, Mitchell Wilcox wasn’t prepared with the necessary precision to execute the winning PAT, as Fitzpatrick zooms in to block the attempt.

The ball scuttled out-of-bounds, with the Steelers getting an unlikely last-ditch kick return try – which led to bonus football.

As it stands, the Bengals – and Steelers – would both miss field goal attempts in sudden-death situations during the overtime period. Pittsburgh would eventually get one more chance, as Chris Boswell would hit a game-winning field goal from 53 yards, as the Steelers upset the Bengals in their stadium by a final score of 23-20.
