Plays of the Year: Najee Harris goes airborne for quick answer TD against Ravens

Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the top runs, catches, hits and everything else in-between from the Pittsburgh Steelers 2022 season.

In Week 14 of the 2022 NFL regular season, the Pittsburgh Steelers hosted the Baltimore Ravens in an AFC North divisional rivalry game. It was the two teams’ first meeting of the season. Although it was a close game on the scoreboard, it was a battle in the trenches and in the run game.

After Kenny Pickett was forced out of the game due to a hard tackle and Mitchell Trubisky took over at quarterback in the first quarter, the Steelers aired the ball out mixed with the run. The primary ball carrier was Najee Harris.

With a little over two minutes left in the opening period, Trubisky marched Pittsburgh from their own 36-yard line to the end zone in just five plays. The biggest play of the drive was a 42-yard pass to George Pickens that was a combat-type catch against Marlon Humphrey.

Humphrey was called for interference on the next play and set Pittsburgh’s offense up with first-and-goal at the Baltimore one-yard line.

Calling on Harris’ ability to stretch out and get vertical, Trubisky handed the ball off and let the second-year back to utilize the push created by the offensive line to leap up and forward to extend the ball over the plane of the goal line for the first Steelers touchdown in the game.

Even though the Steelers mixed both Jaylen Warren and Benny Snell into their rushing plays, Harris finished the game with 12 carries for 33 hard-earned yards against a stout Ravens defense. Harris also caught two receptions for 17 yards.

Had Pickett not been forced out of the game and Trubisky not thrown three interceptions, the Steelers may not have trailed and been forced to go away from the run. Regardless, the Steelers lost, 16-14, to the Ravens.
