Plays of the Year: Kazee intercepts Lawrence for Steelers takeaway

Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the top runs, catches, hits and everything else in-between from the Pittsburgh Steelers 2023 season.

In Week 8 of the 2023 NFL regular season, the Pittsburgh Steelers defense dealt the Jacksonville Jaguars three takeaways and held them to just one touchdown in a 20-10 loss that was punctuated by injuries and rough officiating.

With 13:35 left in the second quarter, the Jaguars led 6-0 due to two field goals by Ben McManus. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence hit Calvin Ridley twice for nice gains in the series mixed with a couple of Travis Etienne runs to get to the Pittsburgh 6-yard line.

On 1st & Goal, Lawrence targeted Ridley short right and cornerback Damontae Kazee jumped in front of the pass for his first interception of the season.

The Steelers offense then marched down the field, 93 yards on 12 plays, but had to settle for a Chris Boswell field goal when Kenny Pickett and Diontae Johnson were unable to connect on third-and-five at the Jacksonville 5-yard line.

Kazee’s interception was just one of three total takeaways the Pittsburgh defense earned against Jacksonville. Teammates Keanu Neal and Cole Holcomb both grabbed a fumble recovery apiece on the day but the Steelers would fall to 4-3 with a 20-10 loss to the Jags.
